Pulley Jamming During Grounding? SHSQN822D Grounding Roller Blocks Ensure Smooth Line Stringing in Finland

Pulley Jamming During Grounding? SHSQN822D Grounding Roller Blocks Ensure Smooth Line Stringing in Finland

2025-05-29

Under Finland’s high-humidity and long-duration outdoor conditions, traditional steel grounding pulleys frequently face issues such as corrosion, water ingress into bearings and poor rotation performance. Once a grounding pulley stops rotating smoothly, friction increases during stringing, leading to uneven tension, local heating and even jamming. This not only impacts the construction schedule but also introduces safety risks.

To address this issue, the contractor on this project deployed 108 Grounding Roller Stringing Blocks for Pulley Block SHSQN822D along the main transmission line. These SHSQN822D units feature an aluminum-alloy side-frame with integrated grounding rollers, reducing weight while maintaining strength. Their key rotating components use sealed bearings designed for improved resistance to water, dust and freezing, allowing them to rotate smoothly in rain, snow and icy conditions.

In actual field use, the Finnish construction team reported that after switching to SHSQN822D Grounding Roller Stringing Blocks, there were virtually no jamming incidents throughout the stringing stages. Conductor and earth wire passed through the blocks with noticeably lower resistance, and the load curves on the puller and tensioner became smoother. Because the rollers turned freely, the cables remained more stable in the grooves, reducing local wear and potential damage.

In the project close-out review, both the utility owner and the contractor agreed that compared with older steel pulleys, SHSQN822D offered significant advantages in corrosion resistance, low-temperature performance and maintenance frequency. Routine work was reduced to simple visual inspections and occasional lubrication, which was sufficient for an entire construction season. Based on these results, the contractor plans to continue using SHSQN822D Grounding Roller Blocks as the standard grounding pulley solution on future refurbishment projects, gradually replacing their legacy equipment fleet.
